It [was] October so let’s get spooky! Not really a kids’ movie at all, Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” is still one of my favorites from my youth. Starring Michael Keaton as the titular character along with Alec Baldwin, Gina Davis and Winona Ryder, “Beetlejuice” is the story of Adam and Barbara Maitland who die tragically in a car accident. Kid Tested – Uncle Approved: “Hocus Pocus” (1993)

hocus-pocusIn 1693, during the Salem Witch Trials, young Thachary Binx witnesses his sister Emily being taken by three known witches, the Sanderson Sisters. Their goal is to use their dark magic to suck the life out of her and all the children of Salem so they may live forever! Binx foils their plans by dumping the cauldron of potion, but not before poor Emily has had the life sucked out of her. Furious at him, the leader of the sisters, Winifred (played brilliantly by Bette Midler) curses him to a life of immortality as a black cat. Shortly thereafter, the townspeople decent on their cabin and hang the sisters for witchcraft. Before their deaths, Winifred says they will one day return when a virgin lights the black flame candle, after which they will suck the life out of all the children in Salem and then the world!
